It’s 11:23 my time, and we have officially crossed the finish line. That means that the last trip to the post office has been made, the final tax returns are gone, and I can finally start on my steak dinner. Yep. You heard me right. I have a fabulous T-bone steak that I’ve been marinating for two days. I cannot wait to throw that sucker on the grill, right next to the twice baked potato, that will be grilled/cooked for a third time.
So I guess that makes it a thrice graked potato? Three times, twice baked, once grilled? I don’t know…. Maybe it HAS been too long a day….

So besides that, I bet I have a couple of you wondering… I thought the Brainiac was a Graphic Designer. Well, I am. But my best friend and his wife are accountants, specifically in the area of Income/Corporate Tax returns, and I somehow manage to get roped in to helping them do taxes every year.

Just kidding. Well, about the roping part. I do it because they’re my best friends and because they’ve done so much for me in the past. It’s the least I can do. Besides, it’s been a wonderful experience and education. If I ever decide to leave the graphic arts area, I know what my second career will be. Apparently, I’m really good with the numbers and the research it sometimes takes.

For example, there happens to be a very obscured tax law that was originally piggy-back on a 1971 oil bill that passed through Congress. Now how many people do you know that would actually know that? And I thought I was the one with all the useless information…. Let em see how H&R Blockhead would handle that….

Speaking of H&R Blockhead…. I had someone come up to me asking a “quick” tax question, since they heard I do tax prep work. (Folks, there’s no such thing as a “quick” tax question….) She was asking me if the IRS was still allowing a sales tax deduction like they did 20 years ago. She had apparently gone to these wonderful people and had her taxes done, only to find out through a friend that he had deducted the sales tax on his car, his new windows, etc…. H&R Blockhead didn’t even know about the deduction on the Schedule A!

Okay, enough about that. My steak is almost done (I was grilling while writing this), and I’m going to go eat. More tax time blunders and stories later this week! 🙂 If you happen to have a question, or a story, let me know! I’ll be happy to commiserate with you!
